Bureau of Pesticides
Overview
The Bureau of Pesticides' mission is to provide comprehensive pesticide regulatory programs that respond to state needs by ensuring the protection of public health and the environment. The Bureau is responsible for registering pesticide products sold and distributed in Florida. The Bureau also conducts scientific reviews to determine whether human health and the environment may be adversely affected when pesticides are used under Florida conditions and in accordance with label directions and applicable regulations. Bureau employees include registration specialists, scientists, and support staff.
Pesticide Registration Section
Evaluates and registers pesticide products offered for sale in Florida
Evaluates non-routine pesticide product registration requests: New Active Ingredients, Special Local Need, Significant New Use, Section 18 Emergency Exemption, Experimental Use Permit;
Registers Federally- Exempt Pesticide Products;
Maintains files (labels, etc.) of active products
Evaluates potential impacts of pesticides on human health;
Assesses potential impacts of pesticides on the environment, including endangered species;
Conducts evaluations of potential impacts of pesticides on Ground and Surface Water Quality
Pesticide Review Council (PRC)
Advises the Commissioner of Agriculture regarding the sale, use and registration of pesticides and advises government agencies, including the State University System, regarding their responsibilities pertaining to pesticides.
